Hilary Johnston
Manager of Customer Engagement
Hilary is the Manager of Customer Engagement here at Leadr.
She graduated from Texas Tech University with a degree in Psychology and a minor in Mass Communications. Throughout Hilary’s career working in an in-house advertising agency, working at a mega-church within the DFW area, and now working at Leadr, Hilary’s love for people, how they operate, the habits they create, and each individual’s unique road to development has been a common thread.
Outside of work, Hilary is happiest being with friends and family, sitting around a table in conversation, playing games, and laughing. She loves traveling for quick weekend getaways or extended trips to beautiful destinations but also has a soft spot for her hometown, Amarillo, Texas. Hilary has lived in the Dallas-Fort Worth area since 2013 where she quickly learned that rush-hour traffic is a great place not just to test her patience but to also catch up on the latest podcast.
Why I'm Passionate About Leadr
At Leadr, we all have a story of a poor management experience that led to our passion for people development and desire to work at Leadr. We call these our Nigel stories.
Nigel is a fictitious character we’ve worked with or for in the past with unhealthy leadership tendencies. We all have those tendencies within ourselves, and they can emerge unintentionally, impacting those around us.
We are all Nigels, or know a Nigel, and Nigel is why Leadr exists. Here’s Hilary’s Nigel story. What's yours?
Nigel was a people person and someone that was loved by all. Nigel had a hard time giving direct or constructive feedback because they didn’t want to hurt people’s feelings. What Nigel didn’t realize was that his lack of feedback and having difficult conversations led to those he interacted with stagnant and without clarity. Nigel’s team also never built strong trust because they didn’t know if Nigel was truthful when he told them they were doing great.
Sometimes, passive leaders are just as dangerous as aggressive ones. I’m so thankful to work at Leadr, where we seek to turn all managers into leaders one organization at a time.
